Our Founder’s Legacy
Tom “Running Bear” Smith, a proud Native American from the Western Tribe of the Cherokee Nation in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, founded Tom Smith Industries, Inc. in 1981 with a guiding principle passed down from his ancestors: “Always give more than you take.”
Over the next 25 years, Tom built the business alongside his wife, Annette, growing it into the world-class injection molding facility it is today. Through every phase of growth, he remained true to his founding values — leading with integrity, generosity, and unwavering commitment.
Tom’s dedication extended beyond business. He actively supported organizations that advanced opportunities for minority- and women-owned enterprises, believing in the power of inclusion and community. Known for keeping his word and standing by his commitments, Tom established a legacy of trust that TSI proudly upholds to this day.

Today, Tom’s granddaughter, Tarra, leads the organization with the same determination and principles that defined its early days. With over 25 years in the plastic injection molding industry, she blends deep industry knowledge with a forward-thinking approach — championing innovation, technology, and sustainable growth.
Tarra is also a strong advocate for supplier diversity. Under her leadership, the company maintains active partnerships with organizations such as the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC), WBEC ORV, the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC), and other leading diversity networks.
